Public Program

Art in Conversation

December 17, 2026, 6:00 PM

Join the Urban Civil Rights Museum in Harlem for the inaugural edition of Art in Conversation. This special program brings together artists D. Lammie-Hanson and Gina Athena Ulysse, whose works are featured in the museum, as well as public art historian Jeffreen M. H. Ash for a discussion, moderated by Urban Civil Rights Museum in Harlem Executive Director and Chief Curator, Jennifer Scott. Together, they will explore the rich cultural and political history that shapes their creative practices, and the powerful connections between art, activism, civil rights and social justice.

Art in Conversation is a series of facilitated discussions and mixed-media presentations featuring artists and their creative practices. Across these discussions, we will explore their sources of inspiration during the creative process and how ideas of ideas of freedom, justice and Civil Rights resonate throughout their practice. Whether you are an artist, writer, or a lifelong learner, you are invited to join the conversation. Engage with visionary Black artists, exchange ideas, forge meaningful connections in Harlem, and imagine creative solutions through the transformative power of art.

This program is free. Advanced registration is required.

The Museum closes at 5:00 PM and reopens for program guests at 5:45 PM. Daytime admission tickets do not allow earlier entry to the program. Seating is first-come, first-served. Galleries will not be open during this event.
