November 14, 2026 — Ongoing

On view in the Museum's permanent exhibition, Moving History Forward, visitors can discover artwork from the Harlem Renaissance by prominent artists such as Augusta Savage, and other artists featured in Opportunity magazine.

Portrait of Eugene Kinckle Jones by Augusta Savage, 1934

Augusta Savage was a Black American sculptor whose studio and work inspired many in the Harlem Renaissance. Her 1934 bust of Eugene Kinckle Jones, honors the founder of the Boston National Urban League who served as the Executive Secretary of the League from 1918-1940, and is remnant of the close relationship between the National Urban League and the Harlem Renaissance.

Opportunity: A Journal of Negro Life, National Urban League, 1923-1949

Opportunity magazine, established by the National Urban League in 1923, explored Black life and self-expression. It became a platform for emerging Harlem Renaissance artists. The magazine featured prominent thinkers, writers, and artists. Many of the publication's covers showcased the artistry of Harlem Renaissance creatives.
